What The Scout ?!

Mixtum Magicae is a VR-game where you play as a magician with your spell book and create your own spell.

What is this ?

What the scouts! is the project that marks the culmination of my four years of study at ISART DIGITAL Paris. It's a project in which I've had the chance to work in a group made up of all the different video game professions. It's a project that took a whole year to develop and went through all the stages of production, from concepts and the alpha and beta phases through to gold.

My major contribution

For this project, I was in charge of the narrative, level design and balancing. 

Throughout the production process, I was committed to integrating all the game design points to make the game as fun and narrative as possible, following the motto: ‘Show don't tell’.
 

To do this, I started sketching out the level design with another game designer from my group to help me create a level that combined interesting pathing and intelligent environmental storytelling. To do this, I worked closely with the game artists and sound designers to create an entire universe in this level design that would serve as a forest and camp for the scouts. As far as the link with the game artists is concerned, we worked a lot on the assets and their placement in the map to create a logic based on the behavioural habits of the children and as far as the sound designers were concerned, we created zones with different sound atmospheres to give our level real life.

Finally, the most complicated part of the project was the balancing, which was a key point.
 

1- Increasing difficulty that's enjoyable for the player
2-The children's behaviour had to be logical and believable.
 

To achieve this, and in collaboration with the project's game programmers, we set up a number of tools enabling me to manage the children's behaviour and the dangers they were going to get themselves into almost in real time.
